THUNDER RAPIDS AMUSEMENT PARK - OUR STORY

Thunder Rapids Fun Park is a family-run amusement park in Headingley, Manitoba.

Roy and Verna McGuckin, along with their four-year-old daughter Amber and two-year-old son Tyler, made their dream a reality in 1997 when they opened for business with a go-kart track. A few years later, their youngest daughter Colleen was born and joined the “family business.”

Roy McGuckin, with his daughter Amber and son Tyler, working to build the main track at Thunder Rapids in 1997. Roy’s dad Malcolm was always eager to see the progress.

After the track was ready for racers, Verna and Roy used their landscaping background to craft and create the beautiful 18-hole mini-golf course that’s complete with challenging holes, including an island and a waterfall.

The mini-golf course rose up from the flat prairie earth. It took two years to complete the construction for the course in 1998 and 1999.

In 2001, the family made a splash when they added their third main attraction — the Bumper Boats, complete with water guns.

In 2002, the family decided to add a FREE giant jungle gym to the park.

The Thunder Rapids jungle gym started in pieces before it was put together in 2002.

The family wanted to let other racers get behind the wheel, so they added the mini track for the Kiddie and Junior Karts so racers starting at 3 years old could go for a spin in 2006.

Later in 2006, the family opened up their latest attraction, the batting cages.
